Distractions

Twitter, Facebook, Skype…all these things are useful tools that can serve a valuable purpose in internet marketing and other endeavors. In fact, in the days of “Web 2.0″ you almost can’t do business without them. While these tools and many others have practically revolutionized the way we communicate online, they come with the risk of being a huge time sink if not properly rationed.

Who hasn’t browsed their friends timeline on Twitter and lost track of time? Or checked Facebook a dozen times in one day just to see what their friends were up to? The point is, if you wander aimlessly through these tools, you will get nothing done.

My recommendation? Strictly schedule Facebook and Twitter time and stick to the schedule! Also, try to have an agenda, so you do more than just waste you time. Productivity comes from small steps like these!

Possibilities

I have to admit; I was extremely inspired and impressed by the first coaching call Alex Jeffreys put on last night for his students. It was originally slated to go for 2 hours; it ended up lasting for almost 5 hours!

There was a lot of valuable information provided during that call. I can’t wait for the recording to be posted so I can comb through it again! I think this coaching program may be the best investment I have made in my business so far.

If you didn’t get into the coaching program this time, keep an eye on Alex’s site and hope he opens it up again in the future!

Mobile blogging

Something I am experimenting with is how to blog when away from my computer. Apparently the easiest way to do so is to enable posting by email. That is how I am writing this post, just to test it out.

If you want to enable this on your WordPress blog, you can do the following:

Log in to your WordPress dashboard. Go to Settings > Writing Under ”Post via email,” enter your mail server information. You will need to set up a dedicated email address for this, because anything sent to this address will end up on your blog. Choose a category for your email posts. I prefer something like ”Mobile Posts” because these posts will probably be shorter than the standard post.

That’s it! Let me know in the comments or on Twitter if you need any help getting this working.

Update: I was having a bit of trouble getting the standard post by email functionality to work, plus it was requiring some more advanced setup using cron, so instead I switched to Postie, which seems to be working out much better.
